ACT ONE – SCENE I

Angelina: Mum, I am not feeling well.

Mrs. Peroumal: What have you got, my child?

Angelina: I have a bad headache.

Mrs. Peroumal: Why don’t you take a couple of aspirins, and you will feel all right again?

Angelina: I have indeed worked hard at school today.

Mrs. Peroumal: Teaching is the best career people say.

Angelina: Mum, it is not so.

Mrs. Peroumal: Did you see your friend Vanessa today?

Angelina: Yes mum, but why?

Mrs. Peroumal: She came to see you yesterday but you were not at home.

Angelina: Oh, she is so nice. She is my friend. We always spend our time together.

Mrs. Peroumal: I have received a letter from your uncle in England this morning. He and his wife were on holidays for the last three weeks and they visited Trafalgar Square, The National Gallery and the British Museum.

Angelina: They could have come and spend their holidays in Mauritius, couldn’t they?

Mrs. Peroumal: They might come next year.

Angelina: They can stay with us. Anyway, did they ask about me?

Mrs. Peroumal: Yes love. Besides they have asked you to write to them often.

Angelina: But I don’t think I’ll be free this week. I must go out shopping. Besides, I come home late from school and this prevents me from writing to them more often.

Mrs. Peroumal: I can do the shopping for you if you want. Well, what would you like to buy?

Angelina: Two jumpers, a dressing gown and a handbag.

Mrs. Peroumal: I have just watched a good film on television.

Angelina: What film was it mum?

Mrs. Peroumal: The Lilies of the Field.

Angelina: Oh, I regret of having missed it.

Mrs. Peroumal: I must go and see your grandmother tomorrow. I have not seen her since quite long.

Angelina: Neither have I.

Mrs. Peroumal: I had asked her to come and spend Christmas with us, but she never turned up. She might be ill, who knows?

Angelina: Yes mum. It would be good that you go and see her tomorrow.

Mrs. Peroumal: What will you have for supper?

Angelina: Chicken and chips, mum.

Mrs. Peroumal: Go and have a rest in the meantime my child. I'll call you when supper is ready.

Angelina: All right mum!
