A Painful Separation

“A Painful Separation” relates the tragic love story of two students who had come to Green Valley University to pursue their studies. Rooney Hatts had travelled from Australia, while Maureen came from South Africa. During their time together at university, they fell deeply in love and dreamed of building a happy and successful future together.

One day, tragedy struck when Rooney Hatts was involved in a serious accident. His injuries were so severe that both of his legs had to be amputated. The accident changed his life forever, and with it, the course of their relationship. The love that had once united them slowly turned into painful separation and disappointment.

Unable to accept spending the rest of her life with a disabled man, Maureen decided to leave Rooney. After the graduation ceremony, she returned to South Africa to begin a new chapter of her life. Rooney, no longer able to continue his medical studies because of his condition, sadly returned to Australia. The emotional pain of losing the woman he loved became unbearable, and he gradually fell into deep despair.

One Saturday morning, overwhelmed by loneliness and unable to cope with the separation, Rooney took hold of a revolver and tragically ended his own life. His dreams, ambitions and future were lost forever.

Rooney's mother, Mrs. Paula Hatts, was left completely alone after the death of her only son. She, too, experienced an unbearable separation. The remainder of her life was spent mourning him day and night, carrying a sorrow that never faded. Happiness never returned to her life.
