It was a Friday evening. Christopher, a famous journalist of “L’Humanité” newspaper, had just returned home after a hectic day at work. At that moment, all he wanted was to relax for a few hours.
Earlier at work, he had planned a night out with his colleagues at Le Suffren. Therefore, he wanted to look his best for the evening. He removed his iPad from his bag and logged onto his Facebook profile to chat with his friends.
While he was busy talking with his friend Roy, Christopher suddenly received a notification. To his surprise, it was a friend request from a woman named Rosalie.
Rosalie’s profile picture immediately caught his attention. She appeared stunning in a red velvet dress. Curious by nature and always eager to discover the truth behind everything, Christopher explored her profile and accepted her friend request immediately.
Although Rosalie was online, time was passing quickly. Christopher had to prepare himself for his meeting with his colleagues that night.
At Le Suffren, Christopher enjoyed the party and met many beautiful women. However, he could not understand why he was not attracted to any of them. Several women approached him, but he politely refused them.
Only Rosalie remained in his thoughts. He started feeling uncomfortable and restless in the atmosphere around him. He wished he had brought his iPad so that he could begin a conversation with her.
Finally, around midnight, he found an opportunity to leave.
“Where are you going, mate?” asked Gavin. “Let’s have some more fun!”
“Oh, I completely forgot! I am expecting a phone call from my sister. She would be calling me in thirty minutes on my landline. I have to get back home as quickly as possible,” explained Christopher.
Christopher excused himself and left his friends to continue enjoying the party.
Once at home, he logged onto Facebook. Unfortunately, Rosalie was offline. Disappointed, he left a message on her wall:
“Hello! Do we know each other?”
The next morning, Christopher checked his profile again, but Rosalie had still not replied. Days passed, and he became increasingly curious.
Almost a week later, while checking his emails connected to his Facebook account at work, Christopher finally received a message from Rosalie.
“Hi. Sorry for the late reply. There was an issue with the internet connection in my region. We don’t know each other. But maybe we can be friends. What do you say?”
Christopher was delighted. He returned home happily and sent her another message:
“Sure, I would like to get to know you more. Could you please be online tonight?”
That night, they had a long conversation.
Christopher discovered that Rosalie lived at St. Paul, while he lived at Triolet. He explained that he was a journalist and also managed his personal business consisting of forty acres of sugarcane fields and a hotel at Trou-aux-Biches.
Rosalie revealed that she worked in a textile industry at Pointe aux Sables called Ashoka Industry.
Christopher remembered the company because he had once investigated allegations concerning textile effluent being discharged into a nearby river, causing high fish mortality in the region.
Rosalie explained that she had worked there for three years. She was forty-two years old, while Christopher was forty-seven.
She earned about two hundred and fifty rupees per day and had studied up to Form Four at Cosmos Technical College.
As their conversation became more personal, Rosalie asked Christopher about his marital status.
“Yes, I am married! But I am separated from my wife actually. I prefer to be honest with you. My wife betrayed me. She had a love affair with somebody else.”
Rosalie expressed her sympathy, and Christopher agreed that his wife should be ashamed of her actions.
They ended their conversation with the promise that they would meet online again the following day. Christopher went to sleep with a smile on his face.
For several weeks, they continued talking online. Then, one day, Christopher asked Rosalie out.
