As part of the commemorative activities marking the 181st Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery, the Nelson Mandela Centre for African Culture honoured several authors through the launch of two books and a traditional Sega Tipik album.

Among the featured publications was Life Full of Thorns, written by Narayan Jumnoodoo. The novel tells the moving story of a courageous Malagasy slave who arrived on the Isle de France (Mauritius), portraying resilience, dignity and hope despite immense hardship.

About the Book

Life Full of Thorns is a historical novel that reflects on the experiences of slavery in Mauritius through the life of a remarkable woman whose strength and determination become symbols of courage for future generations.
